British Columbia > Vancouver Island > Holberg Hotel (s)

Holberg

Location

Holberg

Holberg (pop. 200) is a small settlement on northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada at 50°39′21″N, 128°0′29″W. The community was established in the early 1900's by Danish settlers who named their new home in honour of Baron Ludwig Holberg.

Holberg is on the long, unpaved road to Cape Scott Provincial Park[1], San Josef Bay[2] and Winter Harbour.

Nearby Ronning Gardens[3], an anomally in the west coast temperate rainforest, was created by Norwegian settler Bernt Ronning around 1910.

Holberg has always been noted for logging. During World War II, the Canadian Air Force maintained a radar base here.
